Show Me

Show me a camp filled with gold mining men
Or gamblers with money to spend
Show me a fort with soldiers who serve
Or cowboys with cattle to tend

Then I'll show you a lass with something to sell
A girl with a dollar to earn
Who'll give of herself from dusk until dawn
As men eagerly pay for their turn

These soft gentle creatures can sooth a hard heart
They are sister and lover and wife
They can make a man better than he hoped he could be
And bring joy to a wearisome life

So it wasn't the men who tamed the Wild West
And settled this land that we love
But a raised petticoat and a wink and a smile
And the warmth of a sweet soiled dove

The New Job

It's not difficult work the madam said
You'll never walk the streets
You'll make good money and sleep real late
And it's easy on the feet

So I took the job and she was right
I saved money on shoes and things
But she neglected to mention one important expense
I've spent a fortune on new mattress springs

Dear John

I've entertained many men from the young to the old
Men from the North, South, and East
I've had soldiers and judges, lawmen and crooks
And hundreds of cowboys at least

Man after man paid the price for my charms
But my carefree youth is now gone
Yet as I ponder my past what I can't figure out
Is how come they all had the name John
